What Can You Sell Online?
The internet today is the world’s greatest communication service. We do virtually everything online, from socializing to shopping. Given how easy it is to do, it’s a wonder why more people don’t combine their socializing with selling.
Many people get a Google adsense account on their blog, hoping to make a little money on the side. After awhile, they barely notice it, other than to occasionally wonder how Google manages to place ads that are related to their blog posts. They don’t sell anything, though and even if they did, the commission amounts to pocket change at best.
Just as happens in the ‘real world, ‘ only the companies with the deepest pockets seem to succeed at online selling. If a watch manufacturer, for example, has a website, it will likely be successful because the brand name is already known. If they advertise their new line of men’s watches online, they already have a market for them.
Most people think that trying to sell online is a pipedream. They may try it just for fun, but then they go back to relying solely on their nine to five job. They don’t even think it’s worth trying or think that trying to make money online is for suckers.
Still others don’t want to try to sell things on their blog because they think it is against the spirit of social media. They want their blog to be ad free. That’s a noble sentiment, but perhaps misguided.
A girl who has a blog where she writes about the latest celebrity gossip or fashion trends is always promoting somebody’s product whether she knows it or not. She might rave about a crystal necklace she just bought and put a close up picture of it hanging around her neck on her blog post. She will mention the brand and even the store where she bought it. Odds are, if she has a lot of friends and followers, one or two of them will want to buy one of those necklaces, too.
What she has just done is give away her brilliant advertising skills for free. Why would she do that? She wants people to buy the product, but she doesn’t take the extra time to find out how she can make a commission for the sales. If she just took that little extra bit of time, she could earn a commission for her efforts and she deserves to.
All it takes is a little research and she could be making extra money doing what she is so good at. When she writes a blog post about the latest shirts for girls, she could find a way to make her backlinks pay, rather than just offer her services to the manufacturer for free. If you’ve got a blog, don’t make that mistake. Make it pay.
