How To Make Duvet Covers
For those of you who have been trying tobuy a duvet cover then you probably know how expensive it is to make such a purchase. Do not throw in the towel just yet because there is another way – make the cover on your own. This article focuses on providing you with some basics on this subject matter.
Don’t worry if at first you don’t make one that are high quality like your feathers and leaf print duvet cover set you find in retail shops but the exercise can really be rewarding and self filling. One of the major difficulties with making one on your own is when it comes to taking care of the place where the sheets are inserted. the problem may be with the sewing at the top where you would have your closures.
I suggest you start from the beginning. First, organize all the sheets that you will need. Make them to be the material that you like – for example if you want a microsuede duvet cover then buy material made from that particular style or fabric. Before you think about folding the top sides you must first pin the bottom and side.
Now, you will have to make buttonholes at the top, right where the two sheet ends join together, and use buttons to close. You do have an option to use ribbons if you love them. You can fold the sheet about 12 inches down on one side, at the top if it is longer than the quilt. Then stitch it on the sides like an envelope closure.
As for the closure, you can choose a snap take, zipper or Velcro, depending on what suites you best. My best option is nylon zippers. This is because they make it easy for me to dress up the bed.
