Garage Sales – How To Sell Your Unwanted Household Goods
Spring time is usually when one holds a garage sale. It is psychologically acceptable that when winter is finally gone and spring is in the air, that we too want to start a new and have a clean house come this summer. So what do we do to get our house in order for those long summer months? We have a garage sale of course.
Planning such an undertaking is both exhilarating as you will have all sorts of memories when you look at an ornament or piece of furniture for first time in years. They say having a garage sale is both cathartic and very rewarding on the financial side as well. Start by making lists of all your items and price each item accordingly.
Once you have decided on a day, you must hastily place an advertisement in your local newspaper or place an ad at your local community board at the supermarket. This way you will get the locals involved as well. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can get rid of that plus size wedding dress if you have not informed people that you are having a garage sale. It is not advisable to just exhibit your stuff and hope that people will arrive.
Making lists of all your items on sale will take a lot of your time and effort. Start with the small ornaments and work your way up to the big items. Group these items together on the day of the sale as well. You need to get stickers or labels whichever you prefer and price each item according to your needs. Don’t charge too much for the small ones – try to keep it under ten dollars.
It is also good to group your large items like home storage cabinets, bookshelves or even a sofa together. It makes it easier for the buyer to glance at your items first and then come back to them a few minutes later. It you mix your clothes with your pots and pans, your customers will loose interest because it just looks like a mess.
Should you have a lot of clothes and especially baby clothes and baby items, you need to group these as well. It will let your customers get a better idea of what you have and will help them to make decisions based on what they see and not what the hope to stumble upon. Take a spa baby if you have one and fill it with all sorts of baby stuff like rattles, toys and clothes to present it as a complete package. It is nice to get a hamper full of goodies and will sell easier.
It is definitely the best way to get rid of your unwanted household items and unwanted clothes as well, you get to meet your neighbor maybe for the first time and you might just start a trend in your neighborhood. Good luck.
