Courier Drivers and Uniforms

There are a lot of different types of courier companies out there. The policies that are enacted by a company the size of FedEx are going to be much different than those which are used by a small Columbus courier service. A perfect example of how these types of companies might differ is on the question of courier uniforms .

Usually, when you’re dealing with one of the large, multinational shipping companies you may notice that they have their drivers wearing head to toe uniforms in the company colors. These companies are all about marketing, and they see a strong uniform code as a marketing chance. Every one of their drivers is essentially a walking billboard for the company, wearing the colors and logos where ever they go while they are on duty.

Smaller courier companies may feel more comfortable going about their marketing in a different way. They may still have uniform policies of some kind, but always are not as extreme in what they require their drivers to wear. There are typically two uniforms items which are given to drivers. Generally,this consists of a shirt with a logo on it, and possibly a hat. Some couriers will have their drivers wear both of those items, some only one or the other.

There are also companies that may decide to not enforce any uniform policy whatsoever. This happens a fair bit when companies use a network of drivers which they hire on a subcontractor basis rather than as full time employees of the company. Because those drivers may work for more than one company at a time, there is usually no effort made to create uniforms at work .

Even couriers who don’t have a uniform policy, they may enforce a dress code. Companies want their employees to look neat and professional regardless of whether or not they are wearing uniforms . Obviously, there can be different standards as far as what is appropriate for a courier to wear based on the kind of company that they’re working for, and the vehicle that they are driving. A corporate courier delivering legal documents in the financial district of Manhattan might have a far different dress code than a trucker that is hauling livestock across the country for a larger transportation company. If you’re fond of what a courier company requires their drivers to wear before you hire them, just ask someone at the company about the uniform or dress code enforced.
