Authority Sites Versus Mini Sites – The Debate Continues
Mini sites have been a part of online marketing for a long time as has the debate over building an authority site or the mini site. Yet the way Google views these sites and their differences has now come into debate by itself. But recently is seems as though Google has grown disillusioned by its previous liking for mini sites. However, the last few changes in ranking algorithms seem to favor those content rich authority sites rather than mini sites. This is Google’s way of attempting to provide their users with more relevant content in search results. But a mini site can still, believe it or not, have a positive use in your marketing. If you like Internet marketing you will soon realize that a lot of new launches such as Click n Bank benfit greatly from this style of marketing.
It’s commonly believed that mini sites have the advantage of bringing you profits in a shorter period of time. There is something to this point of view, to be sure. You can overlook the bigger picture, though, if you focus solely on fast profits. One approach would be to break down a niche into many micro niches, based on careful keyword research. You could then put up a dozen or more mini sites, each based on one of these micro niches. It shouldn’t take you long to rank for these key phrases if you chose them wisely. Of course, it’s fairly obvious that mini sites are not looked upon favorably by Google. Deciding between authority and mini sites can be explored from several angles. It is possible to have ten mini sites along with one rather large authority site. How would you go about driving traffic to each site? Each of the ten mini sites will need you to drive traffic to them individually. You’ll also have to dedicate time and energy to drive traffic to the larger authority site. However, with an authority site you can drive traffics to different pages within the same site. If you’re interested in leveraging your time, authority sites will work better. You’ll find that larger sites have a unique value known as the stickiness value. Since the content on mini sites is so limited it is difficult to make them very “sticky.” If you like Internet marketing you will soon realize that a lot of new launches such as Click n Bank benfit greatly from this style of marketing.
Authority sites are also excellent tools for establishing fast credibility. Larger sites filled with useful content tend to be more impressive to visitors. It’s just easier to make the leap that the person behind the larger site really knows what he or she is talking about. Credibility is often established on nothing more than that. This rarely happens with mini sites. It can, but that is quite rare. Because every marketing venture online is unique you should consider them all as unique. Every venture you pursue will be somewhat different than the last and you’ll need to change the way you market. With this in mind it would be completely unwise to imply that either authority or min sites were superior to the other.
