Attraction Marketing vs Rejection Marketing – Which Are You Using?

By cmubag On June 14, 2009 Under Small Business

Old School Network Marketing tactics include most of the ones you are probably already familiar with or at least have heard about.  They include techniques such as creating a list of friends and family (known as your warm list), creating a list of everyone you know, working these lists, placing door hangers, sending out flyers, holding meetings at peoples homes or at hotels, leaving drop cards, cold calling, and approaching everyone within 3 feet.

Did they work for you?  They don’t for most people so don’t feel alone.

My company indicated that everyone was a potential prospect.  While not everyone might be directly interested in the products we sold, everyone was interested in earning some extra money, right?  So just make a presentation to everyone you met and some would say yes.  I was told that it was a numbers game, the more you people you told about your opportunity, the more people you would get to sign up.

However, what they either didn’t tell me or at least played down, was the large amount of rejection I would have to face.  Approaching a disinterested, untargeted market not only resulted in a large amount of out right rejection, it also created some amount of hostility.

So my upline responded by recommending that I buy opportunity leads and call them.  If you call enough folks, a certain number will join.  It is just a matter of calling more leads if you want to sponsor more people, the story went.

But by following this guidance led only to more rejection, hung up phones, and some hostile confrontations from these supposedly opportunity seeking prospects.

After running out of money and sinking into debt from purchasing useless leads I had nothing to show for it.

I finally threw in the towel and got out of the industry for a while, defeated and licking my wounds.  That is until I ran across a much easier and better method of sponsoring.  The new method used the Internet and soon had people coming to me as opposed to me having to go hunting for them.

Instead of attempting to offer my program to everyone and anyone, I learned how to provide useful information to a targeted audience, build a relationship with them and have them ask me about how to join my team using attraction marketing techniques.

{So, if the traditional Multi Level Marketing strategies are not working for you, I strongly suggest that you take a look at the new school attraction marketing methods and don’t be held back by obsolete marketing tacktic, or at least marketing methods that aren’t working for you.}
